The Municipal Unit of Aigeira is situated in the east side of Aigialeia and is the first village that someone meets when entering Achaia, as it is the border between the counties of Achaia and Corinthia. Its name, according to researchers, includes the morpheme ”iero” which, based on the decryption of Mycenaean writing, means ”holy”.
Aigeira is one of the most picturesque places in Aigialeia and claims its own share on the tourist map all year round. Its coastal settlement represents the essence of Greek summer. A picturesque harbour, an exotic sea with clear green waters, pebbled beaches to suit all tastes, a seabed suitable for exploration, beach bars and tavernas and several accommodation options, all the above unfolding against the backdrop of the area’s green mountains.
The visitor is able to enjoy not only the tourist market of the district, but also the beach of Aigeira, which is one of the most cosmopolitan beaches of Eastern Aigialeia. It also has very important archaeological monuments, such as the ”Ancient Theatre of Aigeira”, which has been preserved up until today.
On the mountains of Aigeira and its unexplored peak lies its best kept secret, authentically beautiful villages with pristine natural beauty, which await us to discover them. Perched on the famous rock dominating Aiges, among steep gorges and overlooking the fertile valley of Krios river, they are decorated by nature’s green, treating visitors to the very best of their land and to a panoramic view of the Corinthian Gulf.
More specifically, it is worthwhile visiting the village Aiges, which is found at a height of 400 metres at the foothills of Mount Evrostina, the village Chrysanthio, which is at a distance of 13km from Aigeira, the picturesque villages Monastiri, Seliana and Perithori, as well as Synevro village with the theme park ”Area Synest”, where the visitor has the opportunity to discover feelings and tastes.
