The “Iakovos Tsounis” Museum is housed on the ground floor of the “New Horizons” Youth Center of the Holy Metropolis of Kalavryta and Aegialia at 8 Polychroniadou Street in the center of Aegion.
The Museum exhibits relics of religious, national and historical value from the personal collection of the youngest veteran of the Second World War, Iakovos Tsounis.
The saving initiative for the collection and rescue of the relics was taken by the Venerable Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aegialia, Mr. Ambrosios, recognizing the value of the exhibits and offering Aegios another jewel of culture.
Iakovos Tsounis was a Great National Benefactor with a great contribution to the Greek Armed Forces as well as an ecclesiastical benefactor and financial booster of various institutions (mainly ecclesiastical).
False witnesses of his benefactions are the honors and offices with which he was honored, such as the proclamation of him as Grand Archon of the Patriarchate of Kon/leos and Alexandria, while he was also honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honor by the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and by in the Armed Forces he was awarded the rank of Honorary Lieutenant General.
With the inspired guidance and care of His Eminence the Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aegialia, Mr. Ieronymos and following cooperation with the president of DIKEPA, Ms. Maria Tsoukalas, the Museum operates for visitors from Monday to Friday 10.00-13.00 with free entrance, but also outside the specific hours upon consultation.
