The Municipal Unit of Akrata is located in the east side of Aigialeia in a beautiful natural environment and extends from the coasts of the Corinthian gulf to the foothills of Helmos. It is actually situated between Diakopto and Derveni, while it is approximately 150km away from Athens and 70km from Patras.
Akrata is a seaside region, which has however mountainous areas. The enchanting Zarouchla, for example, in northern Akrata is a tourist destination for all seasons, whereas in the forest the beautiful Tsivlos Lake with its aqua coloured waters stands out for its natural beauty.
Moreover, in the position Portes Agridiou there is a path for hiking, whereas close to the village Peristera the Stygas Waters and the Golfo’s fountain are found.
Akrata is also known for its Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra, which participates in important events of the Municipality of Aigialeia, as well as for its Municipal Art Gallery, where the visitor can buy works of art and replicas. In Akrata the Cultural Foundation ”Manos Hatzidakis – Nikos Gatsos”, which was first opened by the Municipality of Akrata in 1997, stands out. Afterwards its operation was disrupted for many years up until 2013, when its reoperation in a new location was decided.
The Municipal Unit of Akrata is also famous for its villages, Mesorrougi, Agia Varvara with its picturesque square, Solo and Valimi, all at the foothills of Helmos. Regarding its beaches, in the region you will find the beach of Siliveniotika, which is the largest beach of Aigialeia, the beach of Krathio, the crowded beach of Platanos, as well as the beautiful beach of Porovitsa with the picturesque port.
