The Municipal Unit of Erineos is situated in the northwest side of the county of Achaia between the urban areas of Patras and Aigio, making up the middle link of communications and transports. It is at a distance of 16km from Aigio and 28km from Patras and extends from the beautiful beaches of Lambiri and Bouka to the foothills of the Mount Panachaiko.
The grounds of the Municipal Unit of Erineos is crossed by the river Foinikas and collects various features. Specifically, at its south side it has mountainous and semi-mountainous regions, resulting in the fact that the residents have developed agricultural activities and occupy themselves with the primary sector. As the largest part of the population is involved in the agricultural exploitation and livestock farming, the products of the area, such as the Corinthian raisins, the olive oil and the wine, are particularly well-known. On the contrary, in the north and west there are grassland and seaside districts, thus the tertiary sector and the involvement in the tourist activities have developed substantially.
The area also has a significant historical and archaeological meaning, as at its coastline the port of ancient Rypes was found, while ruins of the city of Rypes have been located in Kamares and Salmeniko. At a small distance from Kamares the seaside town Lambiri is situated, where the ”Panagiotopoulos Property” operates, a place which hosts events, weddings and baptisms.
Moving towards the semi-mountainous areas of the region we come across the picturesque Ziria, a beautiful and traditional village with vineyards and raisins, and Salmeniko, which is found at the foothills of Panachaiko among three rivers and is known for the Castle of Oria, which is the last castle that fell into Turkish hands. Moreover, in Neos Erineos we have the opportunity to take a tour of the ancient market and view the Old Railway Station and the stone-built churches of Saint Charalampos and Saint Varvara.
