Paper Manufacturing Aigio
The ghost building that marks the port of Aigio was one of the most important factories throughout Greece and a development center with strong economic influence in the wider area.
Although it is an imposing building complex, its looted, almost diminished image does not resemble its glorious past. The factory operated from 1927 until the economic troubles that began in 1975 led to its closure in 1991. While the history of the modern industry Aigio’s paper industry experienced its greatest growth from 1930 to 1960. Designed by Swedish architects , while the factory was one of the most modern in its field, having the most sophisticated technological machinery of the time.
In its labyrinthine spaces, it sounds as if the sounds of workers’ machines, steps and voices still echo. It stands spooky, scary at times, delivered to the deterioration of time and mania. Once full of life, today a remnant of another era. An urban ghost that still captivates with the history and lost time it represents.
He desperately wants to wake up to his lethargy, hears promises of years while he could be a monument of Greek industrial heritage, showing the visitor all the stages of paper production.
