Styx waters, the springs of river Krathis, have fuelled legends and folk tales for centuries, surpassing the boundaries of ancient Greek mythology.
According to mythology, Styx was an Oceanid who had her palace in the Tartarus, guarded day and night by dragons that never slept. The water sprang from the Tartarus and her palace. It is said that for the gods, the ultimate vow was made swearing to these waters. That is also where wrongdoers received their punishments. Legend has it that whoever drank from the water died, while this water could melt any metal. That’s where Thetis dipped Achilles to make him invulnerable.

This untameable landscape and its wild beauty will undoubtedly live up to every word of its legend. The dramatic cliff with the rushing waterfall is at an altitude of 2,100 meters. The waterfall drops from a height of 200m to enter the riverbed of the Krathis. At its base, it has formed a convenient terrace with black rocks. Adventurous visitors will sit on this Throne with their backs resting on Styx’ palace and their feet in the air to take in all the greatness of the moment. Under the waterfall’s shouts, discover the feeling of being in between two worlds.
Access is only possible through hiking. The first section of the route starts from the village of Peristera (or Solos) following a forest road leading to a pine forest. From there you will continue on a trail for about 2.5 hours. At this point, you catch a refreshing breath at a characteristic point of the route with a wonderful view. From there, you need half an hour more to arrive.
